LONE STAR PATIO OFFERS SOME
HELPFUL ADVICE ON HIRING A
HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR
Lone Star Patio presents the following information as a courtesy to our current and potential customers. This information is comprised from advice from the Better Business Bureau and from experienced construction professionals. Our number one goal is customer satisfaction. This information is to better assist you and help to make your experience with your project go as smooth as possible. Good luck. We look forward to working with you.
A) Before even beginning to select the contractor for your project, it is recommended
that you carefully plan out exactly what your needs are & what you want the completed
job to look like.
B) When searching for contractors, ask friends, relatives and business
associates for recommendations. Seek out more than one or two bids.
C) Once you obtain a few bids, compare costs, but keep in mind that the lowest price
is not always the best deal. Discuss each bid in detail in determining the quality
of the work that will be performed. In addition, ask for local references & if possible
go look at completed work.
C) Contact the Better Business Bureau to learn how long
a contractor has been in business. Also, ask the contractor if he is insured and
verify the coverage once you obtain the name of he carrier and agency.
D) The contract
and price negotiations are the last steps you will need to do before work can begin
on your project. We have prepared a list of what we consider to be the most important
information regarding this process. This is only advice, but we believe it is worthwhile
to read over to help you protect yourself.
CONTRACT:
1. All agreements & oral promises should be put in writing.
2. Make sure the following
is in the contract:
A description of the work to be done.
The total cost of the project .
Any Warranties and/or guarantees of workmanship.
A right to cancel clause (Three business days is the legal law in the state of Texas).
The contractors full name, address, telephone number.
3. Be wary of vaguely worded provisions and do not be pressured into signing a contract.
Never sign a partial or blank contract.
4. Keep in mind, once a contract is signed,
generally it cannot be changed or broken unless both parties agree.
5. Keep a copy
of the signed contract.
PAYMENT:
1. Make every attempt to pay a minimal or no down payment for supplies or services.
2.
If a down payment is required it should not exceed 10% of the total cost of the project.
3.
Be suspicious if you are asked to pay for the entire job in advance.
4. Payments should
be made progressively as your project is completed, which should be stated clearly
in your contract.
5. Avoid paying cash whenever possible.
6. Hold at least 10% of the
total until you are satisfied that everything has been completed.
7. If a payment
plan has been worked out, make sure the arrangements are clearly stated in your contract.
We appreciate you taking the time to look this over and sincerely hope that it helps
you in your endeavor. If, unfortunately, you should encounter any serious problems,
it may be best to contact your lawyer for legal advice. Good luck and we hope through
all your wise planning that you are happy with the finished project.

* PLEASE NOTE...
That Lone Star Patio does not require a down payment. 100%
of payment is due only upon SATISFACTORY completion of the job.
